Florida has had five official flags throughout its history. The first was the Spanish flag, flown when Spain claimed the region. This was followed by the British flag during the period of British control. Afterward, the Spanish flag returned when Spain regained control. The Confederate flag was used during the Civil War. Finally, Florida adopted its current state flag, featuring a red St. Andrew's cross on a white background with the state seal in the center, in 1900.
